Frequently Asked Questions
1. Where is the most potent catnip grown in Canada?
High-altitude, dry climates produce the most potent catnip. Catabliss partner farms are located in Southern Alberta, where the intense sun and semi-arid conditions create a higher concentration of nepetalactone (the active oil) than coastal regions.
2. Is Catabliss catnip safe for households with children?
Yes. Our catnip is a 100% natural herb from the mint family, grown without pesticides or harsh chemicals. It is non-toxic and safe for furbabies and the families who love them.
3. What is the difference between "Big Box" catnip and boutique Canadian catnip?
Most mass-market catnip is "brown dust" filler. Catabliss is small-batch processed in Qualicum Beach, BC, using only the greenest leaves and flower tops from our Alberta farm, ensuring a fresh, powerful "crunch" and aroma.
4. Does catnip expire or lose its potency?
While it doesn't "spoil," the essential oils can fade. We pack our catnip in airtight containers immediately after drying to lock in the oils. Store in a cool, dark place to maintain that Alberta-grown punch.
5. Can kittens have catnip?
Most cats don’t develop a reaction to catnip until they are 6 to 9 months old. While it is safe for younger kittens, they likely won't feel the "bliss" until they reach maturity.
6. Why do some cats not react to catnip?
About 30% of cats lack the hereditary "catnip gene." If your cat is a non-responder, they aren't broken! They are just part of the "Elite 30%" who might prefer Silvervine or Valerian root instead.
7. Is catnip an upper or a downer for cats?
Both! When smelled, it’s a stimulant that causes the "zoomies." When eaten, it acts as a mild sedative, helping cats relax. It’s the ultimate tool for feline enrichment and stress relief.
8. How often should I give my cat catnip?
For the best experience, offer catnip 2-3 times a week. This prevents "nose blindness" and ensures every session feels like a total retreat for your pet.
9. Can catnip help with cat anxiety or vet visits?
Yes. Because catnip has a sedative effect when ingested, it can be a great natural way to soothe a cat during travel, moving, or stressful vet appointments.
10. Is Catabliss a Canadian-owned business?
Proudly. We are a family-run boutique based in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island. We provide Canadian jobs by partnering with multi-generational farmers in Southern Alberta.
